Every May, the Satsuki Festival is held in Ueno, Tokyo, where you can see many magnificent and domineering bonsai. Satsuki azaleas have a strong Japanese image but complement a Western-style garden.

Satsuki is an evergreen shrub of the Rhododendaceae family. It grows naturally in the Rocky Mountains along river banks west of the Kanto region, and has been cultivated for ornamental purposes since ancient times. Satsuki Azalea in Japanese is the abbreviation of "サツキツツジ".
