Juniper is an evergreen coniferous tree of the genus Juniperus in the Cupressaceae family.
This plant, once native to Japan, survived in a variety of habitats, from mixed forests to high mountains. It is found in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu south of Iwate Prefecture, and is commonly found on mountain ridges and along the Seto Inland Sea coast. It is also known as juniper, pine, or eastern pine. However, its presence has declined significantly in recent years. Its characteristic, pointed, elongated leaves resemble the needles of an agouti, and because it grows naturally in barren land, it is a very robust and easy-to-care tree. Its trunk and branches, with their dead, skeletal appearance, are attractive, and its unique weight adds to its style.
