PLAN+T BONSAI Basic Daily Care

Every environment is different, so the following care methods are for reference only. Please adjust them according to your actual situation to ensure the health and beauty of your bonsai.

All bonsai available for sale on our website are already potted. Bonsai plants are living things, so please treat them with care. Any plant needs time to adapt to a new environment, and diffuse sunlight and appropriate humidity are the best conditions for bonsai to adapt. If you notice unhealthy leaves, we recommend removing them. Removing old leaves encourages new growth, and proper leaf removal also reduces nutrient consumption.

  • Summer care

In summer, avoid placing your bonsai in direct sunlight, especially during midday hours, to prevent leaf burn. Place your bonsai in a sheltered area or use a shade net.

  • Suitable for flowering bonsai

After the flowers wither, they should be removed in time, otherwise the nutrients of the plant will continue to be depleted. In addition, if the flowers are not removed after withering, the accumulation of water will easily lead to fungal infection.

  • Each watering

When watering, wait until the water flows out of the pot. This method is suitable for small bonsai. Wait until the soil is almost dry before watering again. Because different environments and locations affect the frequency of watering, the number of days between watering cannot be fixed and should be determined based on the dryness of the soil. Place the bonsai in a well-ventilated area. Note: Only water when the soil is almost dry, otherwise it will easily rot and cause the plant to die.

  • How to determine whether the soil is dry

1. Observe the color of the soil: when the soil becomes lighter in color, it means it is dry.
2. Press the soil with your hands: feel whether the soil is moist.
3. Compare weight: The weight before and after watering will be different.

  • Fertilization

(Seasonal fertilization, fertilization in spring and autumn. No fertilization is required in summer and winter)

Bonsai should be properly fertilized, especially flowering bonsai, to promote flower growth. Avoid fertilizing when the plant is unhealthy (e.g., with a large number of dead leaves), as this may damage the roots. Fertilize again after the plant has recovered. Besides ruling out bacterial infection, dead leaves may be caused by over- or under-watering, insufficient sunlight, or lack of ventilation. Focus on water, sunlight, and ventilation to see if there are any areas that need improvement.
