Bonsai🌱 Easy to understand at a glance: "Native vs. Grafted"🌱

"Native vs. Grafted"
Whether it grows from a seed or is grafted by a craftsman,
Every bonsai deserves your time to understand and cherish.
The following are the differences between native and grafted versions.👇
🌱 native bonsai
✅ Features
• Grown naturally from seeds (not artificially grafted)
• The roots, trunk, and branches all grow naturally as a single unit.
• Unique in form, exhibiting considerable natural variation
🌟 advantage
• The root system develops naturally, and the root plate has strong plasticity.
• A tree with a strong "personal" shape is more likely to be made into a high-end bonsai.
• There are no visible seams, resulting in a more harmonious and natural overall appearance.
• Rare, and highly valuable after maturation (collector's grade)
⚠️ shortcoming
• Slow growth, requires many years of nurturing
• The shape is not easy to predict and requires long-term observation and pruning.
⸻
✂️ Grafted Bonsai
✅ Features
• It is formed by joining two different individuals: rootstock (lower part) + scion (upper part).
• scion(The upper part) is usually a branch of a superior tree species, grafted onto a vigorous rootstock.(lower part)
• Commonly found in bonsai varieties such as azaleas, junipers, and pines.
🌟 advantage
• It grows relatively quickly and is easy to cultivate into a beautiful tree shape and flowering characteristics.
• Can be used to mass-produce specific varieties (such as variegated leaves and double flowers).
• The scion (upper part) is stable and can retain the superior traits of the mother plant.
⚠️ shortcoming
• Marks will be left at the joints (especially near the dry areas).
• The root system may not be in harmony with the tree shape (e.g., insufficient root spread).
• Poor grafting techniques may affect lifespan or result in poor growth.
• Collectible value is generally lower than that of the original.
Each bonsai has its own way of growing.
