📏 Overall dimensions of Japanese yatsufusa cedar
Specifications: Height 48cm × Width 25cm
Tree age estimated: 18 years
———————————
The genus *Cephalotaxus* is a native Japanese evergreen conifer. Its most distinctive feature is its extremely short internodes and highly dense branch and leaf structure, making it one of the most representative high-grade cypress bonsai in the Japanese bonsai world.
The branches and leaves of the Hachifusa cypress do not extend linearly, but naturally split into clusters of dense leaf houses, layered and stacked, with a distinct structure, forming a tree shape that is described as "dense but not chaotic". The overall appearance is calm and restrained, yet it contains a very high degree of completion, making it a tree species that requires long-term cultivation and meticulous management.
The Hachifusa cedar grows slowly and is not shaped quickly by heavy pruning, but rather gradually accumulates layers over time. Therefore, in Japanese bonsai culture, it is regarded as a crystallization of time, skill and patience.

🌿What does "八房" mean?
"Hachifusa" does not refer to an actual number, but rather to a professional term for a type of branch and leaf growth pattern. In Japanese bonsai terminology, "Hachi" is often used to describe something that is scattered, numerous, or spreading outwards, while "fusa" refers to a clustered or grouped structure of branches and leaves.
The defining characteristic of the yakuban cypress is its extremely short internodes, with each branch naturally forming a dense foliage nest, layered yet not appearing messy. This "yakuban nature" cannot be forcibly shaped through pruning; rather, it is an inherent growth characteristic of the species, meaning it requires a long cultivation period and is difficult to prune, which is precisely where its value lies.

Cultural Significance and Feng Shui Implications of "The Image of the Dense Forest"
In Japanese culture, it symbolizes purification, protection, and longevity, and is widely used in shrines, temples, and important buildings. Due to its compact and stable structure, the yatsubosugi is regarded as a symbol of "restraint and endurance".
From a Feng Shui perspective, the yatsubori (Japanese cedar) is a stable wood, representing a solid foundation and concentrated energy, which helps to gather energy and enhance the sense of order in a space. It is suitable for placement in a study, workspace, entryway, or any place that requires focus and tranquility.
As a gift, the yatsubori bonsai carries profound meaning, making it particularly suitable for housewarmings, periods of career stability, long-term blessings, or as a present for those who value taste and inner qualities. It is unassuming yet highly ornamental, a bonsai that "grows more valuable with age."

🌿 Characteristics and Planting Recommendations
The yakatsugu (Japanese cedar) is stable, but it has high requirements for environment and management, and has the following characteristics:
- Slow-growing, stable tree shape, not easily deformed
- Prefers a bright environment and can tolerate morning and evening sunlight.
- Avoid prolonged water accumulation; good drainage and ventilation are essential.
- Evergreen tree species, with ornamental value throughout the year.
It is recommended to use a well-draining mixed medium (such as Akadama soil + volcanic rock) to avoid root suffocation caused by a medium that is too fine.
