Fine, layered foliage gives Tsuyama hinoki its calm presence.
Tsuyama hinoki is a cultivated form of Japanese hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa), an evergreen conifer with a long connection to Japanese gardens and traditional architecture.
A balcony, garden or work space with suitable growing conditions can become a small, quiet garden setting.
Tree profile
A meaningful gift
Longevity · Resilience · Stability · Continuity
Hinoki’s evergreen character symbolises endurance and continuity. It makes a thoughtful gift for a new home, business opening, birthday, anniversary or company occasion.
The beauty of the tree
Fine, deep green foliage forms layers within the canopy. Hinoki’s characteristic scent can be noticed when foliage is gently handled or pruned.
Care guide
☀️ Light
Provide ample light and good airflow. Insufficient light may produce weak, elongated growth and a loose canopy.
💧 Watering
Water as the soil surface begins to dry, until water drains from the pot. Check more often in hot or windy weather.
🌬️ Airflow
In Hong Kong’s hot, humid summers, pay close attention to airflow and moisture. Avoid both persistent waterlogging and a completely dry rootball.
✂️ Pruning
Thin overly dense foliage carefully to let light and air reach the interior.
